It’s almost that time of year when Winter is drawing to a close and the Spring sewing season is fast approaching. So over the next few weeks I’m delighted to share with you some of my favourite kids clothing patterns to get your little ones wardrobe ready for the warmer weather.
The first pattern is a nice, quick sew for all the girls. Who doesn’t love a cute little suspender skirt? Well I’m no exception. The Willow Suspender Skirt by Violette Field Threads is a gorgeous full skirt that features a flat front waistband and an elastic back for comfort.
It is so easy to make and is very versatile in that you can make it with or without the suspender straps and faux button placket. The optional suspender straps are threaded through two loops on the back waistband and tie into an adorable bow.
Adding a few decorative buttons down the front skirt placket adds a nice vintage look while the front pockets are not only practical but also deep enough to carry lots of little treasures.

The instructions are clear and easy to follow and it includes a skirt cutting chart so if you like to avoid printing the rectangle skirt pieces then you can just draw out the skirt measurements directly onto your fabric and cut.
I like that the suspender straps are nice and long which allow the skirt to be more adjustable during an unexpected growth spurt. And it includes printing layers so you only need to print the size you need.
I find these types of skirts to be great not only for Spring/Summer, but can also be paired with tights or knee high socks for cooler weather.

Back detail
As with a lot of Violette Field Threads skirts and dresses, I personally found the skirt to run a little short so I’d recommend adding an inch or two onto the length if you’d like more of a knee length look.
